American Danielle Collins delivered a major upset at the Italian Open by defeating world No. 2 Iga Świątek in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. This victory marks only Collins’ second win over Świątek in nine encounters. The 29th-seeded American now moves into the fourth round where she will face Elina Svitolina.

“After losing to Iga so many times, you obviously learn from those experiences,” Collins said in her post-match comments. “Even though the last couple times we’ve played she’s beaten me, I’ve played some of my best tennis in those matches. So that gave me confidence.”

With the loss, Świątek will drop out of the top two in the WTA rankings, ending a three-year streak of consistently holding either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot.
